I believe that artistic sense and creativity is already given. It is my desire as an educator to help students to find and develop those artistic values they already have. In my opinion, artistic sense is a result of development and training, and creativity is a result of critical thinking. My class would be a balance of knowledge, art projects, and discussion.

Throughout the class, I will ask students to build their own aesthetics. Discussions will be held on media, society and the role of an artist. I believe that having ones own insight would be the seed to creativity and stimulate ones zest to learn. Materials of history, theory, artists, and current trends would be provided to facilitate with students’ knowledge and understanding. I will further ask students to perform self-driven research of what they have found interesting.

As a media artist, I have experienced new media technology as a source of inspiration, and I would like the students to do so. I will encourage students to create something that they would not have even imagined to do so without technology. I will give knowledge of new media technologies and programming methods in the beginning. After the students have gained a certain level of knowledge, I will ask students to incorporate that with their creative ideas.

For myself, teaching provides an opportunity to pursue my next goal, which is to foster the next generation of new media artists. I have been driven to studying and creating media art projects. Providing guidance to students with intellectual and moral support is another way to share and extend what I value and love.
